Welcome to Timmonsville, SC

I decided to stop and take this picture of the old welcome sign. As I passed daily on my commute it had begun to bug me a little, standing there sadly proclaiming to be the home of four businesses long gone and forgotten by most folks. You could barely even notice it there knee-deep in weeds on US highway 76 across from the Florence Motor Speedway, just outside of the Timmonsville Town limits. The folks of Timmonsville were so very proud of this sign when Sam Hill Fencing placed it there on Gilbert Byrd's property many many years ago.

Here are the Businesses who supported Timmonsville and paid for this sign:
  • Star Systems came to Timmonsville in 1978 moving into a 21,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility on Kershaw Street in Timmonsville to make filters. The parent company, Star Filters was founded in 1904 as Star liquid Machinery of Bronx, New York. The Hillard Corp of Elmira, New York purchased Star Systems in 1986.
  • Pee Dee State Bank was in Timmonsville long before I moved to town in 1968. In March 1998, Pee Dee State Bank Merged with Centura Bank.
  • OXFORD Drapery was located in Timmonsville, SC, on E.Smith Street. The company was categorized under the Curtain and Drapery Mills industry. This industry comprises establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing window curtains and draperies from purchased fabrics or sheet goods. The curtains and draperies may be made on a stock or custom basis for sale to individual retail customers.
  • Timmonsville Chiropractic

If you have information on these businesses please post it.
