DARLINGTON, S.C. – Willie Asbury Dowling, 92, passed away, Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Hospice House. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 25 at Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, 5-7 p.m. February 24 at the funeral home.
Born in Darlington County on 3/28/1921, Mr. Dowling was the son of the late James Muldrow Dowling and Mary Agnes Yarborough Dowling. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He retired from Dixie Cup after 25 years.
Mr Dowling was a member of Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church, where he was Chairman of the Board of Stewards for an extended length of time and was instrumental in organizing the church cemetery.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Iris Clare Price Dowling of the home; his son, Wayne (Pam) Dowling of Mt. Pleasant; his daughters: June (Tommy) Bryant of Darlington and Wanda (Ken) Amick of Irmo; his grandchildren: Kellie (Chris) Flowers, Tom Bryant (Anna), Meg Temple (Tallon), Will Dowling, Heather (Bryan) Lawson and Daniel Amick; great-grandchildren: Bryant, Carrie Price, Kendall, John Wyatt, Connor and Brycen; and his sister, Mattie Lee Browning.
Mr. Dowling was preceded in death by his siblings: Margaret Clayton, Florrie Sansbury, Mamie Tallon and the Reverend James Dowling.
Memorials are suggested to Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church, 1665 Philadelphia Street, Darlington, SC 29532.

Hazel is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Lee Roy (Perry) Perry, her sister, Grace Milicent Bradley, her brother Eugene David Truluck Jr., and her granddaughter Chelsea Truluck Allen.
Hazel is survived by her 95 year old sister, Orilla Marguerite Truluck Dowling, her daughter Linda Truluck Perry Allen and her husband, Dr. Robert (Bob) Johnson Allen; her son, Dr. Lee Roy (L.R) Perry Jr. and his wife, Diane Hill Perry of Florence.
She leaves seven grandchildren: Julia Marshall Allen, Dr. Robert Johnson (Kelley Anne) Allen Jr., James Perry Allen, Celeste Blackwell Allen, Anna Truluck Perry, Louis Tyler Perry, Margaret Wicker Perry, and a great grandson Daniel Patterson Allen. Also a special niece Brenda Bradley Davis of Holly Hill, SC.
Hazel graduated from Sherwood High School in Lynchburg SC in 1938, she completed comptometer training in Atlanta, GA and subsequently worked for the mail order division of Sears and Roebuck, where she met the love of her life Lee Roy Perry.
Hazel and Lee Roy Perry were married in the First Baptist Church of Florence on July 5,1945. Hazel has been a member of First Baptist Church for almost three quarters of a century. She taught Sunday School there for many years. Hazel loved bridge, she was an active member of two Florence bridge clubs and the Florence Garden Club.
Hazel and Perry had made their home in Timmonsville during the 70's when they purchased Cale Yarborough's house on US Highway 76 east of Timmonsville. Many may also remember this as the the old Scarborough home. The Perrys enjoyed the old stately home and entertained there regularly. Hazel was a wonderful hostess.
When Perry's health declined they made the decision to sell their Timmonsville home and return to Florence. This made life easier for Hazel. She loved her home and quiet neighborhood where her life centered on family, friends, music and Jesus Christ.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Waters Powell Funeral Home, 400 South Dargan Street, Florence.
A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church Florence at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 15th with an entombment service to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church at 300 South Irby Street, Florence, SC 29501.
The family requests that you please designate memorials to the restoration of the church organ.

Alma was born March 14, 1930, in Sandersville, GA to the late James Herman Trussell and late Sallie Mae Blount Trussell. She is predeceased by her first husband, Darrell L. (D.L.) Conner, Sr. of 42 years of marriage. She also is predeceased by her second husband Col. Don Benton. She then reunited and married her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Harrison who died in 2004. Being the youngest of four sisters, in Heaven she now joins Mrs. William E. (Inez) Berne, Mrs. Ed (Sara Frances) Rabon, and Mrs. B.C. (Ena) Ballentine.
She is survived by her four natural children and spouses, Darrell L. (Chrissy) Conner, Jr , Julie Conner (Jerry) Gage, Ronald H. (Ann) Conner, and W. David (Laura) Conner, all of Florence, SC and a step daughter, Linda (Larry) Brady of San Diego, CA. She also leaves a special friend, John McInnes of Florence, SC. Alma is separated temporarily from her nine grandchildren, Dal Conner of Charleston, SC, Drake Conner, Christopher Conner, Natalie Smith (Jon) Mahaffey, Jilian Smith (Brandon) Herrington and, Ben (Jordan) Conner, Daryl Leigh Conner, Sydney Conner and Camryn Conner, all of Florence, SC, 6 great grandchildren, Maddy, Evie, Zelle, Margaret, Liam and namesake Emma Louise to be born this month, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Often seen dressed in garnet and black colors, she was a faithful follower of Gamecock football. She taught nursing in the RN program at Francis Marion College and then at Florence Darlington Technical College where she taught RN's and other nursing programs. She also taught vocational nursing classes at Timmonsville High School.
Always with a passion for the garden and flowers, Alma’s energy lead her to purchase Quick’s Florist and Gifts in 1970 opening several stores in both Florence and Timmonsville. She expanded by starting Sid’s Wholesale distributing to retail florist throughout the Pee Dee. She belonged to two Garden Clubs and often received awards for her floral arrangements. She was often heard saying she was happiest when she had her hands in the dirt. She truly had a green thumb.
Her exuberance for life kept her involved in conservative politics and social issues on a local and state level. Up until recent months, she has enjoyed traveling state side and abroad, and living between Florida’s west coast and Timmonsville. She was currently a member of Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church.The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Gilliam Skinner of Florence and Dr. Leland McElveen of Columbia, SC for their wonderful care for Mrs. Harrison over the years.
Due to her love of flowers, in lieu of memorials, send flowers.
Alma"s "dash" was filled with family, community, love, and laughter.
