Taste Like Chicken

Lance and Chad Shirley want you to know:
Uncle Danny had no life insurance of any kind, and all of the final bills, along with all of the cost of the funeral are adding up fast. To help the family, Shane Brannon of "Apple Annies" fame, will be holding a benefit that will also serve as a celebration of Uncle Danny's  life in the next few weeks to help with all of these final expenses.

This is our way to help the family, we are not rich with money, but we are definitely rich with love. Uncle Danny is the perfect example of simply loving. Everyone out there that knows him, calls him Uncle Danny. His personality, his laugh, and his compassion were all so contagious. Whether you had just met him or you knew him forever, you loved him and he loved you back. In the eyes of all that knew him, he was a gentle soul, he was brother Danny or Uncle Danny. He loved his family, his friends, good music and his Clemson Tigers.

We all are going to miss him terribly.  We believe there will be no better way to honor him and the love he shared for life, family and "friends" than all of us getting together sharing our stories and love for him, celebrating his life and enjoying some great music throughout the day.

Of course any donations of any amount will be so appreciated, and will all go to help defer the final cost of Uncle Danny's passing.  This is a tough time both emotionally and financially. We want Brian, Shannon and Emmy to all be there, so all of you can meet them, and share your favorite Uncle Danny story. This would be our opportunity to show them just how special their dad was, and the impact he had on all of our lives.

This benefit will hopefully lessen the financial burden on them and even lessen the emotional burden on all of us. On behalf of our Entire family, we thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support that you all have shown us. We will lock down the exact date of the event in the next few days. So, friends and family, and to my fellow musicians, if you would like to help out in any way, please, let us know. Thank you all!!!  Chad and Lance Shirley.

He received burns over 55% of his body but his condition is stable and his family continues to covet your prayers.

Original post below as told to us by the person who stopped to help Daryll.

TIMMONSVILLE, SC - It's Saturday, April 25, 2015 at around 9:00 at night. You've had a long day at work and you are heading home.

Suddenly up ahead, you see bright lights. You are sure that an oncoming car has crossed the center line and is headed toward you. It has indeed crossed the center line and then goes on into the the woods crashing in between two trees.

As you pass by a fire begins to blaze. You dial 911 and tell them to hurry. There is a wreck on Lake Swamp Rd. The car is burning and the driver is still inside.

Quickly, you turn your truck around. Grabbing your flashlight, you run to the burning car. You wonder, "Are the passengers conscious and what can I do?"

Then you hear the screaming. As you beat the back window out of the blazing inferno, you hear the voice of a man begging for help, but the blaze is so hot you cannot enter the car. The heat pushes you back. Your heart races as you yell, "Help is on the way...but you must try, you must get yourself out, you can do it, come on...you can do it!"

You watch helplessly as the poor man frantically fights at the fire, even pulling the headliner down as he thrashes and beats at the flames. Finally, he is able to crawl out of the drivers side window. The fire licks all around him.

His clothing is on fire as he crawls away from the burning car. You encourage him to drop and roll and he does. He crawls away from the intense heat and collapses at the edge of the field. His skin is already blistered. You know he is seriously injured. You ask, "Are you traveling alone?" and he answers, "Yes."

You tell him, "Hang on, help is on the way!" The man is badly burned. Your heart sinks as time stands still while you wait for the help of the EMS ambulance to arrive. You hear the sirens coming. Darlington County Sheriff, EMS, Lake Swamp Fire trucks, they all arrive. They swiftly and bravely do their jobs.

You help the paramedics remove the burned clothing and place the man on the stretcher for transport to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. They work 10 minutes to get him stabilized before leaving with sirens blaring. It feels like an eternity has passed.

The firemen fight the fire and the sheriff's deputies block the road to protect the traveling community and the firemen as they work.

You take a deep breath and then you realize a few seconds less at the gas station and you could have been head-on in his path. A few seconds more and no one would have been there in time to help. You don't know his name, but you know this man is headed to Augusta or some other big burn center.

You say a prayer for him and thank God for protecting you. You look down and for the first time realize your right hand is bleeding. You wipe it and hold pressure on it as you head home to your little family, thankful you are alive.

Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane has died.

Dukes of Hazzard Sheriff Roscoe

Sheriff  Rosco P. Coltrane has died.  In real life, he was James Best, a wonderful character actor.
Best died Monday night, April 6, 2015 in hospice care from complications of pneumonia.

We all loved the giggling and goofy Sheriff character he played on television's "The Dukes of Hazzard,"

James Best was born as Jewel Franklin Guy on July 26, 1926, in Powderly, Kentucky. His mother was the sister of Ike Everly, the father of the pop duo 'The Everly Brothers'. After his mother died of tuberculosis in 1929, then three-year-old James was sent to live in an orphanage. He was later adopted by Mr and Mrs Armen Best and moved to Indiana.

Beginning his acting career in 1950, he guest-starred more than 280 times in numerous television series. But he was best known for his Sheriff character who was the lawman futilely chasing those Duke boys, often in the company of his droopy-faced basset hound Flash.  He was Rosco P. Coltrane on CBS's The Dukes of Hazzard which debuted in 1979  and ran until the series ended in 1985.

"I acted the part as good as I could," Best told The Charlotte Observer in 2009. "Rosco, let's face it, was a charmer. It was a fun thing."

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Dorothy Best.

Spring has arrived and so have the snakes.

YES! Spring has arrived and so have the snakes, be safe, watch for the eye pupil shape.

Watch For The Eye Pupil Shape

An easy method of telling the difference between a venomous or poisonous versus a non-poisonous snake is to look at the shape of the pupil. Non-poisonous snakes all have a round pupil (in the center of the eye) whereas all poisonous snakes have a vertical elliptical (cat-like) shaped pupil. All pit-vipers (poisonous) also have a small hole (pit) between the nostril and the eye.
