Mr James “J.W.” Carraway,of Effingham, SC was 85 years old when passed into the next world on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Carolinas Hospital System after an illness.
Mr. Carraway was born in Effingham, SC the son of the late James Fred Carraway and Annie Pearl Coward Carraway. He was a longtime member of Effingham Church of God.
He was an excellent auto mechanic. He worked at B & G Tire and Appliance until his retirement. He loved his family and sharing bluegrass music and bar-b-que.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy Carraway; a brother, Willard Carraway and a granddaughter, Brittney Carraway.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Eloise Broach Carraway; sons, Wallace (Sylvia) Carraway of Houston, TX, Wendell Carraway and Roger Carraway, both of Effingham; daughters, Margaret (Roger) McKay of Lugoff, SC, Miriam (Mac) Campbell, Elsie Lear and Susie Carraway, all of Effingham and Tina (Andrew) Whitney of Florence; daughter-in-law, Diane Johnson Carraway of Effingham; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Cecil (Joyce) Carraway and Harold (Madeline) Carraway, both of Effingham.
Memorials may be made to Effingham Church of God Building Fund, 149 McLaughlin Road, Effingham, SC 29541.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Effingham Church of God.
Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
